The National Training Center for Land-Based Technology and Watershed Protection was established at the NC State Lake Wheeler Field Labs for the purpose of demonstrating siting, design, installation, operation, monitoring and maintenance of conventional and advanced waste and water management technologies. As part of the watershed and water quality demonstration component, a stormwater wetland was designed and constructed on site to demonstrate the use of wetlands as a treatment alternative for stormwater runoff. Though the primary purpose of the wetland is to serve as an educational tool, the site also provides an opportunity for research. Water quality and plant communities will be monitored over time to evaluate system performance.
